What to Expect from Your Optometrist

Your comprehensive eye examination is a 45-minute appointment with one of our qualified optometrists. We begin with a conversation about your vision concerns, health history, and daily visual demands. Your eye test is then tailored to your needs.

During the eye test, your optometrist will assess:

• Vision and refraction – identifying focusing issues such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia

• Visual function, including:

  • Binocular vision – how well your eyes work together

  • Eye tracking skills

  • Focusing ability – important for reducing eyestrain from reading or digital screens

• Eye health - to provide accurate assessments, our optometrists use state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic tools, such as:

  • Slit-lamp biomicroscopy

  • Retinal and anterior eye photography

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

  • Corneal topography and pachymetry

  • Visual field testing

  • Biometry and angiography

  These technologies help your optometrist detect eye changes early, monitor disease progression, and tailor treatment based on your needs.

Eye Disease Management

Our optometrists are trained to diagnose a wide range of eye conditions such as:

• Dry eye and conjunctivitis

• Corneal abrasions and ulcers

• Foreign bodies

• Uveitis and episcleritis

• Diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy

• Macular degeneration and glaucoma

• Inherited and degenerative retinal conditions

Therapeutically endorsed optometrists at Lumiere Eyecare can prescribe medications and perform certain procedures to treat eye conditions. If specialist care is needed, we coordinate referrals to GPs or ophthalmologists to ensure timely access and minimise wait times.
